Cadet Programs

CSL is proud to offer a comprehensive cadet program designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to thrive in the marine transportation industry.

As a CSL cadet, you’ll have the chance to gain hands-on experience working with some of the most experienced professionals in the business. The program offers a blend of in-class and on-ship training, allowing you to put your theoretical knowledge into practice in a real-world setting.

Canada

ELIGIBILITY

Our program is open to students studying either Nautical Sciences or Marine Engineering at one of these five recognized marine colleges in Canada:

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

As a cadet in our Canadian fleet, you’ll receive a monthly stipend and gain invaluable experience and skills working on our self-unloading ships and bulk carriers across the Great Lakes and East Coast regions of Canada. This experience will provide you with unparalleled insights into the industry and help you build a network of valuable professional contacts.

Americas

ELIGIBILITY

Cadetships on our Americas fleet are managed by our crew management partner, V.Ships, who is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and managing our seafarers and cadets. Please contact V.Ships directly for all cadetship eligibility requirements.

We also offer scholarships through the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The scholarships are distributed by the institution and are based on financial need.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

As a CSL cadet in our Americas fleet, you’ll have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and skills working on high performance self-unloading and transhipment operations in North, South and Central America, the Caribbean and Africa.

Europe

ELIGIBILITY

Our program is designed to provide UK and Filipino cadets with comprehensive support and sponsorship throughout their training journey.

CSL works with Clyde Marine Training to recruit cadets in the UK, and Jebsen PTC to recruit cadets in the Philippines.

UK cadets are selected under the UK tonnage tax scheme. Deck and engine cadets are chosen before the start of their training.

Filipino cadets are selected from marine training colleges and universities.  and sponsored by CSL during their 12-month sea phase.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

As a cadet in European fleet, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and skills on board our vessels that operate throughout Europe.

UK cadets are sponsored for their full three-year cadetship and Filippino cadets are sponsored during their 12-month sea phase.

Australia

ELIGIBILITY

Cadetships on our Australian fleet are open to students currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nautical Science (Deck) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science (Engine) at the Australian Maritime College in Launceston, Tasmania.

Prior to applying for a cadetship, you need to have obtained your pre-sea certificate (1st year subject)

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

As a cadet in our Australian fleet, you will have the opportunity to continue your studies while simultaneously gaining valuable practical experience on board. You will accumulate sea time by participating in coastal voyages within the Australian Fleet, typically lasting around 6-12 weeks, accumulating valuable sea time.

We will cover the costs associated with your cadetship, including on-campus accommodation, meal service, and travel arrangements. You will also have a fixed-term employment contract with CSL for the duration of your cadetship.

Office Internships

CSL’s Office Internship Program is a great opportunity for you to work with industry-leading professionals and build your skills in a dynamic and innovative environment.

CSL hires interns year-round for office-based positions. Internships typically range from four to twelve months and are available in all departments.

Canada

ELIGIBILITY

We look for interns who are studying at recognized universities or colleges in fields related to the departments they will support while at CSL. For example, a student studying supply chain management could be hired to support our procurement team.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Our internships offer a competitive hourly rate, flexible schedules, and hands-on experience. We believe our interns are the future leaders of our industry. That’s why we’re proud to say that many of our former interns have gone on to work for us part-time while they finish their studies or have been hired for full-time positions after graduation. It’s not uncommon at CSL to find someone who started as an intern and grew into management roles within the organization.
