CSL’s 2014 Corporate Sustainability Report details the Company’s extensive efforts to align its operations and business growth with environmental and social progress and drive positive change throughout the shipping industry.
The annual publication reports on initiatives undertaken across the CSL Group to advance objectives in the areas of environmental sustainability, safety, corporate ethics, community and employee engagement, philanthropy and value for customers.
“By linking environmental leadership with economic performance, we are better positioned to mitigate risks, increase efficiency, identify opportunities and create value for customers – all with the advantage of benefitting the environment,” notes David Martin, Chair of CSL’s Environmental Sustainability Committee.
Highlights include:
- The completion of CSL’s award-winning Trillium Class shipbuilding program;
- An 18 per cent drop in the fuel sulphur content average across CSL’s fleet;
- Fuel savings of 11,000 metric tonnes of diesel through energy efficient innovations;
- A top-ranked Green Marine performance by Canada Steamship Lines, which had an average score of 4.57 out of a possible 5 in seven environmental performance categories;
- The implementation of CSL’s SafePartners safety program across all divisions and the development of a Corporate Safety Plan;
- CSL’s leadership role in the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network;
- The launch of CSL’s talent management program and employee engagement initiatives;
- CSL’s advocacy efforts to ensure a thriving marine transportation industry positioned to respond to evolving customer needs.
The publication of CSL’s annual Corporate Sustainability Report is a voluntary initiative that demonstrates CSL’s commitment to go beyond compliance to continuously seek greener, cleaner, safer and more responsible business practices that benefit communities, the environment and our customers.
