Senior Analyst, Risk Management

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigate, research, analyze and handle moderate to highly complex or severe marine claims, including contractual, coverage and legal issues affecting liability and damages
  • Analyze claims notifications reports to determine nature, cause and extent of loss
  • Investigate and evaluate recovery potential and conduct timely and thorough recovery investigation where possible
  • Establish appropriate case reserves, complete settlements and case resolutions within established reserve and settlement authorities on assigned cases
  • Manage, control and negotiate timely claim payments and settlements on assigned cases
  • Maintain an active diary and monitor diary to achieve timely development of files
  • Liaise with CSL safety officers and ship managers on hull and machinery, third party damages/losses and workers compensation claims management and provide assistance as required
  • Maintain and continue development of the claims tracking/management program (CS Stars)
  • Prepare regular reports as requested (loss trends, claims costs, insurance spending)
  • Maintain regular reporting of case status, developments and direction as necessary
  • Effectively communicate with all internal and external customers
  • Assist in preparation of data for insurance policy renewals
  • Assist with preparation of insurance budget and cashflow reports
  • Participate and/or manage special projects and assignments as needed

Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Law, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years related experience. Marine claims handling experience an asset
  • Practical experience in shipping, trade or marine logistic and/or shipboard experience an asset
  • Strong analytical aptitude
  • Positive, dynamic and professional attitude
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing and proof-reading materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work autonomously in a small team and manage priorities coming from different directions
  • Team player who can interact well with colleagues in all divisions globally
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, mainly Excel
  • Familiarity with broad number of marine insurance coverages an asset
  • Knowledge of accounting and/or maritime law an asset
  • Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation an asset
